Driscoll started a new church in Phoenix, Arizona, a month ago with backing from prominent evangelical leaders including Robert Morris and Jimmy Evans, two Texas megachurch pastors. According to the lawsuit filed on behalf of plaintiffs Brian and Connie Jacobsen and Ryan and Arica Kildea, Driscoll and Turner"engaged in a continuing pattern of racketeering activity by soliciting, through the internet and the mail, contributions for designated purposes, and then fraudulently used significant portions of those designated contributions for other, unauthorized purposes”.

It also names the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability and its president Dan Busby as co-conspirators, saying they conspired to deceive donors by saying MCH met its criteria when they knew it did not. Are you letting culture, not scripture, determine your sexuality, how you date, how you present yourself, how you engage in certain relationships with members of the opposite sex? We need to be very clear that the way we do life is different than the rest of the world. Even a cursory reading of the book of Ecclesiastes shows that culture is a stationary bike that each generation climbs on in hopes of getting somewhere only to die and fall off so that the new young stud can take his turn peddling and, like a fool, make pronouncements about his progress.

We would be wise to see postmodernity as simply the new guy on the old bike and not mistake cultural change for kingdom progress. It is imperative that Christians be like Jesus, by living freely within the culture as missionaries who are as faithful to the Father and His gospel as Jesus was in His own time and place. The long anticipated suit from a group of former members against former leaders of Mars Hill Church was filed today in the U. A church is not simply a building and programs. Mars Hill Church was a community of individuals—non-member attendees who considered MHC to be their church home, members, elders and pastors—who worked together in pursuit of a common mission—to make disciples and plant churches in the name of Jesus.

Needless to say, the four groups are interdependent and the church cannot function without each of them. However, Driscoll and Turner engaged in a pattern of racketeering activity so deeply embedded, pervasive and continuous, that it was effectively institutionalized as a business practice, thereby corrupting the very mission Plaintiffs and other donors believed they were supporting. It is interesting to see ECFA named as a co-conspirator in the suit. The memo disclosed earlier today indicates that Dan Busby approved the moves of Mars Hill Church to address the Global Fund and apparently had no problem with the lack of transparency.

While it is a sad day to see these matters come to civil court, perhaps this will lead to a settlement and closure. Read the lawsuit by clicking the link. A Dallas megachurch has apologized to a wife subjected to church discipline for leaving her husband without permission after learning he is a pedophile. Elders of The Village Church, a multisite Southern Baptist congregation led by Acts 29 president Matt Chandler, sent a letter to members posted online by blogger Matthew Paul Turner admitting to mishandling of a disciplinary process instituted against former member Karen Hinkley.

Earlier, church leaders said Hinkley violated her membership covenant with Village Church by having her legal marriage to Jordan Root annulled without seeking reconciliation after he confessed to her that he is sexually stimulated by little children and had viewed child pornography throughout their courtship and marriage. Root was not disciplined because he repented and entered counseling, but his access to children was restricted. In February Karen Root who later returned to using her maiden name notified church leaders she was withdrawing her membership.

The elders refused to accept her resignation and put her under church discipline for spurning their attempt at pastoral care. The incident sparked an Internet debate over the use of church covenants, a practice prevalent among the neo-Calvinist movement popular in evangelical circles including parts of the Southern Baptist Convention. The elders will move forward with releasing her from membership and will continue their commitment to support her financially through August, the letter said.

Pastor Mark Driscoll of Trinity Church in Arizona has shared his thoughts on when parents should talk to their children about sex and offered tips on how to ensure they have a healthy, biblical view of sexuality before entering into marriage. As a father of five, some of them teenagers, Driscoll said he and his wife, Grace, have some experience engaging in such discussions with children. That’s why he believes it’s important not to have “the talk”, but instead have ongoing “talks”.

It starts when they are little and it’s age appropriate as they grow and it opens a communication channel to where this is sort of a natural, normal part of the parent-child relationships, where you check in with them, they feel free to ask you questions, and it becomes more of a normative part of conversation of life.

You want to open up a safe conversation in which to communicate. Such conversations must begin when children are very small, with discussions about body parts, propriety, modesty, and privacy: “It’s teaching them, ‘Here are your body parts. When children begin to attend school, they often become exposed to the media – which is unfortunately full of sexual content – and other children who may know more than they should about sexuality.

Driscoll said that according to statistics, a staggering 90 percent of children between the ages of 8 to 16 have viewed pornography on the Internet, in most cases unintentionally. You don’t need an adult, dating-type relationship until you’re headed toward marriage because all that will do is increase temptation. When children hit puberty, it’s time to increase the conversation, said Driscoll.
