Switching literacy centers in and out every week is such a headache for teachers! This post shares 3rd grade literacy center ideas that work with any curriculum and last the entire school year! That is how I came up with the literacy center ideas for third graders that are featured in this post. I taught 2nd grade for several years and then moved to 4th grade. So the ideas in this post may work well if you are in the same teaching situation and have students who are performing at the academic level of a 3rd grader, even though they are not in 3rd grade. The goal for reading centers in my classroom is to give students choice and keep them motivated to read. To meet this goal, I offer lots of reading materials such as comic books, chapter books, audio books, and magazines.

Ever heard of year-long literacy centers? As a classroom teacher, they absolutely transformed my literacy center time! So, I jumped right in, prepping cute literacy centers that were sure to please any administrator. But it became clear early on that I was going to burn out before Christmas if I kept at this pace. I only became more and more frustrated with literacy centers, trying all kinds of things for a couple of years until….
